I was forced to watch yet another episode of the story of Hirano Aya still not being able to voiceact properly in an anime about a boring girl. Episode 21 felt like an ending to the show, FINALLY, yet there's an episode 22. I don't even... this show has again and again frustrated me with how it was damned cool with a really cool concept from the first few, is it five episodes? And then they just killed the cool crew Chiko hang out with. And the whole concept of a gang of thieves doing ridiculous thefts like in say - Ocean's Eleven - just vanished, and Chiko met up with all kinds of fucked up characters and especially that goddamned annoying maid and COITUS SHUNKA. Akechi was cool though. But I hated that fake detective with my every being and you were supposed to feel for this guy and sister complex.

And then it just went down the drain, really. Characters modifying their bodies, a mecha woman lusting for OJISAN, some other weirdo that looked just like the mecha woman lusting for OJISAN and those fucking kids and then the doc has molded himself into OJISAN? Topple all that with that song Hirano Aya so wonderfully fails at singing and then they're making Ion Cannns and I don't know anymore. I can't wait for episode 22 so I can finally say I managed to watch through this show and that I can rate it so low that I will forget it existed and announce how it managed to be worse than Evangelion. And from my point of few, that is a seriously major feat - and Evangelion doesn't even have Hirano Aya!

Wait, what? Touhou anime? This was completely unknown to me till it came up in a channel on IRC I will not name, but I will link to our fabulous member rk who told us about it while we frenzied on 2chan to find the names.

Maikaze "Touhou Anime Project; Musou Kakyou" (舞風「東方アニメプロジェクト・夢想夏郷」), is the title, and Musou Kakyou roughly translates to Visionary Summer District. It's gonna be on sale at Comiket 75, apparently with soundtracks, high-quality prints and postcard sets coming with it's limited edition, price will tentatively be 2800 yen during the event. Also, there's going to be the ability to get a reproduced script that's been signed by the awesome seiyuu list. The doujin group will be located at West hall 2, on day 2 (12/29), section あ (hiragana A) block 41A.

The list is as follows:

Hakurei Reimu: Nakahara Mai
Kirisame Marisa: Sawashiro Miyuki
Shameimaru Aya: Fujimura Ayumi
Patchouli Knowledge: Takahashi Mikako
Izayoi Sakuya: Tanaka Rie
Remilia Scarlet: Tsuji Ayumi
Ibuki Suika: Toyosaki Aki
Narration: Inoue Kikuko

I'm so excited if this shit is happening, since holy shit this cast list is insane. I'm not too happy about Reimu, but jesus christ Suika, Remi, Sakuya, Patchouli, Aya, all of them! GENIUS!

People have been asking me, who are these "Nanako" and "Haruta" etc that I talk about when I blog? I am of course talking about the many side-characters with no real stories on them yet, that are getting love in the novels we've yet to see. I thought I'd introduce them to you with the slight knowledge I have of them.

First off is everyone's favorite mother and MILF; Takasu Yasuko. You hear her name fairly often, but people tend to forget about her, since all she seems there for is showing off her ass or her bosom. Ryuuji's mom and Inko-chan's best friend, Taiga has an affinity for her too, for obvious reasons. Hasn't had any real role yet apart from explaining why Ryuuji is like he is, just by being herself.

Koigakubo Yuri. I have so much trouble writing her name every time, and I think people have the same problem in the show with pronouncing her name, thus she is nicknamed Yuri-chan by all the students. She's the homeroom teacher for the class everyone in the show is attending. Very frightened of Taiga, and likes to let Haruta do all the reading in class. Not too important YET.

Haruta Kouji, the class dumbass and slacker. Note how he has a hoodie on him below his uniform. He's also eating in class, which gets him trouble from Yuri-chan. In the show, he's the comedy character in the male slapstick pair of the show, together with...

Noto Hisamitsu. He's in the lower left corner here. If anyone has a better pic/time for him, do tell. Class self-claimed pimp, who isn't really making it through. Has no significance yet, apart from being in the male slapstick pair, all to describe our main characters with how they react to the main cast.

Kihara Maya, the first of the female slapstick pair of the show. Likes to stick around and talk with Kitamura a.k.a. Maruo, and is a fan of him like every other girl at the school. Also buddies with Minorin, like everyone else. Together with the next person, she's the side-commentary on what happens in the show, with no real significance. Her partner in crime is...

Kashii Nanako. The show's elegant, princess-quality kind of girl, which acts innocent (and probably is) and sweet at all times. Together with Maya, she makes commentary and stalks Kitamura, possibly to Taiga's frustration and murderous rages. No real significance just yet.

Kanou Sumire is the student council president. What you don't know yet is that she won the election by a 100% majority because of her powerful, yakuza-tastic personality that spurs everyone on like an inspiring leader should. She's probably the most fun person to translate, since I can find all kinds of middle-level bad mouth ways to refer to people in. During episode four, everyone thought she was Ami. I had a blast with this, since I totally agree on how similar they are drawn in the anime. Her hair is black in the novels. What the hell, J.C.Staff? She's going to be important real soon.

Black Muscle. I shit you not, his name is credited as 黒マッスル. I don't really remember much of him from the novels, but I know that there's shit going on with him in the next episode. The cast's gym teacher and very enthustiatic powerhouse. Loves ranting about sweat. Also, take a closer look at the pic. When you see it you will shit bricks.

Both singles released on the same day means I have to update both OP and ED for the coming episode. And of course enjoy the music too, I had hoped. The Pre-parade full song wasn't all that, I like the anime cut better. Vanilla Salt I never liked in the first place either. BUT! On the OP single there's this song Karakuri that is freaking awesome and has been on repeat for a while here now.

Overall impression is that Horie can sing on her own, but her songs bore me. The combination of Kitamura, Kugimiya and Horie work out as long as they're vocoded. How weird's that?

OP had to be only slightly changed because of some mishearing of... 3 syllables I think? inb4 they change verses on the OP so we have to modify even more.

Back to the ED tho, this was more of a pain. Not too much changed here either, and there's dumb japanese going on which had one of the other TLs ripping at his hair. But of all these things... there's one line.

We've had "vanilla salt de, vanilla". Turns out this is so wrong, the pamphlet reveals "vanilla salt de, BURNING LOVE". If you were to say BURNING LOVE japanese pronunciation style, it'd be ba-nin rabu. Horie says this exceptionally fast, making the difference between ba-nira and ba-nin rabu next to nothing.

EDIT: I forgot to mention how much I raged about this. This song is making less and less sense now:

ilifin during Vanilla Salt, you can't put a smile on this face

Toradora episode 2 has proven that J.C.Staff are able to properly channel the works of Yuyuko Takemiya. Or well, somewhat, since they heavily rush through the original content. But, we didn't want to spam the episode with text, so here's me trying to explain some of the more peculiar things you'll find in the episode.

First of all, Inko-chan. In the first episode, we did not really get its penis joke, where it goes "inpo" instead of "chinpo", which was kinda supposed to be penis. That Inko-chan mis-pronounces to makes jokes is now apparent, which showed up in episode 2 too. This time, the bird goes "Timoten", not "Timotei", and if you're watched Lucky Star, you probably are getting this joke. If not, there isn't much to get about it, other than it becoming a huge western meme: have som YouTube.

Starting at around 03:29, there is an exchange of comments where Minori starts to misunderstand what's going on since Taiga and Ryuuji are walking to school together. If we were to be literal here, we would have having Minori using very awkward phrases. We landed on the "companioned, commuting relationship", where she really is saying "having a let's-do-a-two-shot-photograph kind commuting relationship". As Taiga points out, Minori is being weird, since "two-shot" is used for couples who are close enough to take their picture together, and also for scenes in movies where a male and female character are alone. She continues on with trying to figure the word, finally saying "Egads". She has already been using outdated phrases, and serves us a what I could have translated as "Oi, nutter" or "I'm endlessly confused and surprised". "Egads" felt right to her character, so we went with it. Finally, she figures what she thinks it might be: "avec". Yeah, french, and not "two-shot" either. Having already used "companioned", we needed a middle-ground here too: "avec" is "together"; and we thus got "togethered".

Kitamura is being called Maruo by his classmates. This is because he really looks like Suneo Maruo from Chibi Maruko-chan, a typical nice-guy class leader type of person. You can hear Kihara (orange-haired girl) be all giddy about it, even when Kitamura wants them to stop calling him it. I think Yuyuko really likes Maruko-chan.

Minorin is tossing the basketball with 8 fingers, no thumbs, for some odd reason. While researching this I came over the character Satonaka Satoru from the anime and manga Dokaben. He has this pitch he does where he doesn't use his thumb... and this in baseball. Minoris obsession with baseball blends in here as she's trying to emulate the Satoru-ball, as it is called, with a basketball. And failed at it, too.

Ryuuji's mom, Yasuko, is a wacky kind of person, Ryuuji even it stated in the first episode. I expected more antics from her with how she changes how she speaks, but for now, she's finally begun referring to herself as "Yacchan". She cuts of 1/3 of her name and adds a "cchan" to it, in order to appeal even cuter. In coming episodes, we might see her do Shoko-tan impressions, like in the novels.

While they doubt the credibility of the mail, there is arguably proof of these rumors being true, since the next issue of Dengeki Daioh is going to have a collaboration of the manga-adaption of the Toradora light novels and Shakugan no Shana. Looking at the fact that Kugimiya voices the main character of the Shakugan no Shana anime, this might be the leading trail to this. We might get some even angrier (than Shana and Louise combined) Kugimiya as Taiga, even though there is buzzing on 2ch about it being Tamura Yukari. Cast after the jump.

From MoonPhase:

高須竜児：野島裕史
逢坂大河：釘宮理恵
櫛枝実乃梨：堀江由衣
川嶋亜美：喜多村英梨

And from moonspeak to readable text:

Takasu Ryuuji: Nojima Hirofumi (Overman King Gainer's Gainer, Shakugan no Shana's Ike)
Aisaka Taiga: Kugimiya Rie (Shakugan no Shana's Shana, Hayate no Gotoku's Nagi)
Kushieda Minori: Horie Yui (Love Hina's Naru, Kanon's Ayu)
Kawashima Ami: Kitamura Eri (Minami-ke's Uchida, Le Chevalier D'Eon's Anna)
